Alumni

Introduction

Over the past 14 years, ABW has developed into a significant entity in the field of enterprise education. Some 100,000 participants will have taken part in an ABW program.

Taking these figures into account, it is considered that the time is ripe to institute the development of an Alumni Association that works to provide benefits to its members and to enhance the reputation of ABW Enterprise Education.

With this support, ABW will be able to make a difference in continuing to inspire the youth of Australia.

Proposal

The Australian Business Week Alumni Association (ABWAA) is proposed to be the representative body of all graduates or Alumni of ABW programs and should include students, participants, mentors, speakers, judges, supporters, sponsors and such others as may be considered as appropriate by ABW to be recognised as Alumni. The ABW Office will be the initial source of support for the Alumni and will provide the central contact point for all Alumni.

Mission Statement

The ABW Alumni will function as an essential partner with the ABW community in serving the continuing enterprise education needs of Australia and the wider international communities and in promoting a reputation for quality enterprise education services throughout these communities.

Benefits

In establishing a relationship between ABW and its Alumni, the objective of the association is to promote in every way the best image, interests and development of ABW Programs and to create, foster and encourage individual and community interest in the support of ABW in general. This would provide mutual benefits such as:

  • a potential international network of business contacts, with many members occupying senior positions around the world
  • access to a potential mentoring program involving Alumni, universities and businesses
  • regular networking functions that ensure Alumni members maintain contact with the other program participants
  • online newsletters and regular updates with programs and ABW events
  • a potential Alumni magazine
  • potential communication and research updates from ABW keeping members up to date with latest business technologies, trends and issues

Aims and Objectives

The Alumni aims to provide a service to those that join that includes, but is not limited to, the provision of regular updates, assistance with the organisation and conduct of reunions and assistance to the Chapters. Its main objectives are to:

  • advance the reputation of ABW Enterprise Education
  • promote the Alumni activities within the ABW and wider community
  • recognise the achievements of ABW and its graduates
  • provide opportunities for contact between alumni allowing them to pursue common objectives
  • facilitate the flow of information between ABW and Alumni
  • participate in program facilitation and development
  • liase with professional bodies, industries and employers

Strategies and tasks

The strategy for maintaining the Alumni should be to continuously cement relationships between members and to strengthen the connection between ABW and the businesses who have donated financially and in good will and who have supported the program in every way since its conception. The Alumni would:

  • foster the continual uptake of ABW programs within schools nationally and internationally
  • increase awareness and develop appreciation of the role of Alumni through the community
  • develop communication networks with groups with similar interests or localities
  • encourage interaction between ABW and public and private sector organisations
  • provide representation to key University meetings
